4 Important Factors to Consider while Choosing the Perfect Curtains

Choosing the right curtains depends on several factors. If you consider these factors, you can narrow down your options and the process of choosing curtains can become much easier for you. Here are a few of the factors.

1. Length and Lining

Before taking measurements and heading out towards the curtain shops in London, decide the height above the window at which you’d like to start the curtains. When you choose a height above the window for the hanging panels, a sense of height is offered to the room. It’s a common trend for designers to hang curtains around 6 inches above the window frame; but some go even higher for a more dramatic look.

Now take measurements from the top of the window with the inches of height you want the curtains to hang from added to it up to the floor. If you want a more traditional look in which the curtain will slightly puddle on the floor, you’ll have to add extra 2-3 inches to the length.

Now you’ll have to measure the width and for this, be sure to take additional 4 to 8 inches on both the sides and double the total number to ensure fullness of the curtains. In this way, the curtains won’t get in the way and they won’t even block the window glass when open.

2. Fabric and Color

Fabric is a very important factor to consider because it will decide how well and how long your curtains will be functional. Fabric should not be too heavy because then it won’t fold crisply when drawn, neither should it be too light because then it won’t fall well. By far, materials commonly used for curtains are faux silk, silk, linen and velvet since they hang the best.

In case of colors, remember that they will fade if the room in question gets a lot of sunlight; in that case, avoid bright colors.

3. Dry Clean Only or Washing Machine Friendly

Choosing correctly between these two will save your headache and money over time. Remember that high-quality curtains can be ruined if you try to wash them on your own.

4. Custom-made or Off-the-Shelf

Custom-made curtains have several benefits. Firstly, dimensions of your window size can be customized and a tailored look can be created. There are countless design options in custom panels, from header style to materials. But remember that there is a considerable price difference between custom-made and off-the-shelf curtains.

Thus, if custom-made curtains don’t suit your budget, off-the-shelf curtains is the way to go.
