4 Essential Tips to Prepare your HVAC System for Summer

HVAC SystemPerhaps it seems like your heating and cooling system may be cheap to use when we look at the expenses per month, but the numbers add up and as it turns out we spend quite a bit on these systems. In the unfortunate case of our HVAC system breaking down, all we can expect is for our bills to go even higher. However, there are a few tips and tricks you can do in order to keep the bill from going up and getting your system to work within normal parameters, at their peak efficiency. All it takes to achieve this is to take upon yourself to do some preventative maintenance.

1) Drainage Hole

Every air conditioning unit should have a drainage hole located somewhere at the cabinet’s base. You should look beneath the evaporator fins. If you want to do something effective and improve the way your air conditioner works, keep that hole clean. If it turns out that the hole is too small for you to clean manually, you can use a paper clip or something of the sort to fulfil the task.

2) Dehumidifier Tip

Dry out your dehumidifier! In order to ensure that your dehumidifier is working at its maximum capacity, make sure that you’ve removed the outer casing and let your system to dry completely. Once you make sure your system is completely dry, vacuum the entire unit and remove excess dirt and debris before you start putting it back together.

3) Call in the Pros

There are some things you can and some things you can’t do. It’s important to be aware of the fact that even though there are some helpful tips and tricks as listed above and below, that there’s nothing that can replace the experience and the advice of a professional when he takes a more detailed look at your HVAC system. HVAC Contractors will answer all of your questions and let you in on a few more tips and tricks you can use to reduce your energy bill.

4) Bathroom Fans

These fans work hard during the whole year and there’s no better time than now to make sure that they’re working at their peak efficiency. The first step would be to remove the covers from your fans before you start washing them with water and soap. Once you get them off, you can use a toothbrush to clean the fan blades before you reapply the cover. The most important thing to look after while doing this step is that the power is off. Safety comes first!

These are a couple of rudimentary steps you can take if you are to prepare yourself and your HVAC system for the upcoming summer. It’s important to maintain the state of the engines as well as fans and other components, because if you take care of them on time, you may end up saving a lot more money than you had previously expected.
