Buy Just the Right Vacuum Cleaner

vacuum cleaner buying tipsWhether you are aiming at simply keeping your home spotlessly clean, or helping a family member suffering from allergy, or eliminating pet hairs, you will find a plethora of home emergency vacuum cleaners and you need to choose just the right one. How to do that? There are lots of factors to consider. Let’s see what they are.

Cylinder, Stick and Upright Vacuum Cleaner

Cylinder vacuum cleaners are ideal if you have got hard flooring. They are lighter and accommodate a smaller storage space. Being more compact, they are more commonly used for cleaning upholstery, stairs and, in general, spaces which are difficult to access.

Stick or broom vacuum cleaners are light and easily maneuverable, and they too are ideal to reach places which cannot be easily accessed. Being reasonably priced, they are more popular as emergency home cleaners. But their major advantage is those who have problem in bending and lifting, e.g. elderly or arthritics, can easily handle them.

Upright vacuum cleaners are ideal for bigger areas of carpeted flooring. They too are easily storable and controllable. They too are very usable for elderly, being light and manageable.

Filtration and Air Flow

Filtration is an essential part of all vacuum cleaners but some can prove more efficient than others based on your needs. The amount of dust particles escaping in the surrounding air depends on the filtration. Some available filters are:

Stage Filters: Stage filters work in many different stages. The filtration is usually done within 3 to 7 stages, though all differ significantly. A regular 4-stage vacuum cleaner does this at the bag, filters between motor chambers and dust bag, and a last filter.

Lifetime Filters: Lifetime filters last throughout the life of the vacuum cleaner without the need of change. They usually last for 7 to 10 years.

HEPA Filters: HEPA i.e. High Efficiency Particulate Air filters are ideal for allergy sufferers, because they can hold even the smallest particles causing allergy.

Charcoal Filters: Charcoal filters are designed to filter foul smells and are especially useful for pet owners because the charcoal layer is meant to eliminate any related smells.

Bagged and Bagless Vacuum Cleaners

Amongst these two, bagged vacuum cleaners are generally less expensive than the bagless ones. However, they also need regular bag purchases during the lifetime of the vacuum. Models are also available with self-sealing bags which make disposal easy and cut down the risk for allergy patients.

Bagless cleaners which don’t use bags tend to be pricier; but they are also easier to empty and clean. They come with antibacterial protection which reduces pet hairs and dust thus helping allergy patients.

Performance

The performance of your vacuum is based on a many factors. Normally the more the motor’s wattage, the better should be the performance; however its suction power is improved also by the vacuum’s design and airflow.

For cylinder machines, wattage is more important because the dust has to further pass on and needs stronger suction. The performance of the upright cleaners can depend more upon the kind of brush provided.

Some Other Types of Vacuum Cleaners

Steam Cleaners: These make use of steam to remove debris and dirt powerfully. They don’t need detergents, but need time to create steam, which limits the duration of cleaning time in one session. They come with variable steam control and an array of tools and accessories suitable for using on windows, clothes, carpets, upholstery and oven.

Handheld Vacuum Cleaners: These are small and light, and have a great advantage of portability. They don’t need a bag and can be easily stored, cleaned and operated. But they are not as powerful as cylinder, stick or upright vacuums; however they are ideal for unreachable corners like stairs, car interior, furniture etc.

Carpet Washers: These give out a mixture of water and carpet-cleaning solution through the brushes into the fibers of carpet to break down the trapped debris and dirt. They can be bagless or bagged and have comparatively large capacities.

Manual Sweepers: This is a perfect eco-friendly tool. They also are cheaper than electrically operated vacuums and don’t even pose additional bag cost. Most of them can clean all kinds of surfaces, and have easy emptying facility.

Depending upon your particular need, you can choose the right vacuum cleaner for your home if you are more informed about these various types.
