4 Amazing Tips for Cleaning Hardwood Floor
For their warm, earthy beauty, hardwood floors are something that many homeowners prefer. Plus, they are extremely durable and eco-friendly. If you take proper care of them, hardwood floors can last for decades. Here are tips with which you can do that.
As such, hardwood floor refinishing by professionals is the best way to make your wooden floor look like new. But you on your own too can try cleaning the floor.
1. Clean with Dust Mop or Vacuum
Clean your hardwood floor using a dust mop or vacuum and remove all the dust, dirt, pet hair and other debris that could cause scratches on the floor. Avoid using vacuum with a beater bar attachment since it could harm the surface of the floor. Instead use a floor-brush attachment. Based on the amount of traffic and the number of kids and pets you have, you will have to do the clean at least once in a week.
2. Deep Cleaning
The dirt and grime that build over time can’t be easily removed with just mopping or vacuuming. You will have to do periodic deep cleaning to remove the stubborn dirt with a liquid cleaner. Use a commercial wood cleaning solution. Remember to follow the instructions carefully. A homemade cleaner can also be made by mixing 1 part of vinegar and 10 parts of warm water. You can also add a few drops of liquid Castile soap.
Now saturate a sponge or rag mop in the cleaner solution. Squeeze it out completely to make it damp but not wet and mop the floor with it. Be careful about not applying too much liquid to the floor. Mop again by rinsing the mop in clean water and remove the cleaner from the floor. Wipe excess water with a dry towel as standing water may harm the floor.
3. Tea for Cleaning
Another cleaning solution can also be made with two teabags and boiling water. Steep the teabags in the boiling water for a few minutes. Now take the tea in a bucket and by wetting a soft cloth in it, clean the floor. This will not only clean the floor but also will add an amazing sheen to it.
4. Cover Scratches
You should also cover scratches on your wooden floor. For this, you can use a crayon of the color of the floor and rub it on the scratch. This will fill the gap. Now with a blow dryer on a high heat, dry the area and buff it using a soft cloth.
Follow these tips and make your wooden floor look like new always for long.
